The
Green Stone Dream and The Crazy Beggar who Changed My Life
Greetings,
Our latest newsletter about creating King Solomon’s Ring and
my dream regarding a mysterious ring that acted as a mediator between
the spiritual and the physical realms showed how a dream
can sometimes act as a porthole
to hidden aspects/dimensions of existence. The replies and stories
I’ve received from some of you reminded me the story that
started it all - my own interest in symbolism and the hidden unseen
worlds that most of the time exist behind the veils of what we
perceive as “reality”.
As far as I can recall the story took place between the years 1995 -
1998. At one of the days of 1995 I passed by this sort of
“New Age” store. At that time I had no particular
interest in spirituality or mysticism. As I entered the place out of
curiosity I gazed at all these brilliant crystals and minerals and
looked at all the clients wondering what’s going on. It
looked like a crystal “pharmacy”. Someone asked for
something that will bring love to his life - ”yes, we have
the Rosequarz over there”. Someone else asked something for
“balancing”, - ”have you ever tried the
Boji stones?”. It looked to me like a crystal temple, and the
salesperson acting like a Shaman.
“Can I help you?” , “yes” I
replied ,”what is the most powerful thing you have, something
that will have a profound effect”, I asked taking
my role as the “infidel” in this temple.
“You should try the Moldavite”,
it will change you forever. Then they showed me this tiny dark green stone
that looked to me at that time as a broken piece of a Heineken beer
bottle. I paid for it and placed it in my pocket and walked out.

At night I had a peculiar dream. I was walking through these alleys of an ancient city.
In the dream I knew that I was in Jerusalem. Suddenly, on this narrow
passageway, appeared to be what looked like some sort of a store. The
store was filled with many strange artifacts and also pieces of
crystals and minerals. The store “owner”, a lady,
asked me what I was looking for. “I’m
looking for Shamballa, I need the green stone…”
I replied . Then she showed me different kind of stones and crystals
and named different star systems“ - “We have this
from the Orion belt” and showed me this piece of rock,
“No”, I replied, “I’m looking
for Shamballa” trying my best to describe this bright green
stone. “No, sorry, we don’t have what
you’re looking for...”
At that moment I woke up with this
disturbing feeling of disappointment.
The symbolism in this dream and the feeling that I was missing
something led me to an endless voyage searching for answers about
symbolism, different aspects of reality, the unseen laws that govern
the cosmos while at the same time cutting my teeth in the field of
jewelry art.
As I mentioned earlier I’ve discovered that sometimes dreams can act as mediators
between the spiritual world, the physical world and the human psyche.
About three years later a friend of mine came one day and told me about
this crazy
beggar who approached him
in the nearby street and told him strange things.
“I think you should see him”. I wasn’t
convinced, but we went downstairs and went outside. We found him in the
next street. An old man walking with an old grocery cart filled with
old clothes and rags.
My friend entered a nearby coffee shop and bought him a
sandwich. Meanwhile he stared at me and started ranting like a madman
in a mishmash of Spanish and Hebrew - ”It’s
you! you
are the mystic, you are looking for the green stone! It’s
because of you; once I had gold, now there is iron!”
It wasn’t long after this encounter, that I’ve
discovered the mysterious text of the Emerald
Tablet,
and came to realize that the “gold and iron” were
idioms taken from alchemy. The gold symbolized the eternal, the purity
and eternity of the soul or the true nature of creation while iron
symbolizes the physical, mortal nature of the materialized world - or
in a buddhist way; the world of phenomenon.
So the dream was actually about this mysterious text. The stone
“from the Orion belt” symbolized the partly Egyptian origin of
the Emerald
Tablet, while “Shamballa”
is In Tibetan
Buddhist and Hindu traditions,
a mythical kingdom. It is mentioned in various ancient texts, as the
birthplace of Kalki, the final incarnation of Vishnu who will usher in
a new Golden Age - the Satya Yoga.
Shamballa gradually came to be seen as a Buddhist pure land,
a fabulous kingdom whose reality is visionary or spiritual as much as
physical or geographic.
So the dream with it’s symbolism was a mix of different
cultures and sources of knowledge.
I
would like to dedicate this newsletter to the legendary Emerald Tablet
symbolized in many of my designs by the brilliant emerald stone.
The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus is one of the most
mysterious, cryptic and enigmatic texts. The text is actually derived
from the Hermetic tradition - an ancient Greek and Egyptian
philosophical texts which are attributed to the mysterious figure known
as Hermes Trismegistus. The texts are a combination of the Egyptian god
of wisdom, Thoth and the Greek god Hermes. In these texts Hermes
discuss with his disciples, the true nature of the cosmos, nature, the
mind etc. These teachings can be found in the ancient texts of the
Corpus Hermeticum. These texts are dated back to the 2nd and 3rd century
AD and their origin is probably Egyptian.
The Emerald Tablet is the the most famous piece of Hermetica and is
said to contain the secret of the Prima Materia - the base of all
matter and existence which is formless and beyond definition (that is
the reason for the endless similes in the Alchemical language). The
Prima Materia or the Aether is also described by the ancient alchemists
as the Anima Mundi, or the “World Soul”. It is the
soul, or oneness
that connects everything and IS everything.
For those of you who are not familiar with the text here is a
translation by Isaac Newton is found among his alchemical papers:
"Tis
true without error,
certain & most true.
That
which is below is like that which is above & that which is
above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing
And
as all things have been & arose from one by the mediation of
one: so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
The
Sun is its father, the moon its mother, the wind hath carried it in its
belly, the earth is its nurse.
The
father of all perfection in the whole world is here.
Its
force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
Separate
thou the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross sweetly with
great industry.
It
ascends from the earth to the heaven & again it descends to the
earth & receives the force of things superior &
inferior.
By
this means you shall have the glory of the whole world
&
thereby all obscurity shall fly from you.
Its
force is above all force. For it vanquishes every subtle thing
& penetrates every solid thing.
So
was the world created.
From
this are & do come admirable adaptations whereof the means (or
process) is here in this. Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having
the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world
That
which I have said of the operation of the Sun is accomplished &
ended."
