Flower of Life and the Kabbalah

In the newsletter, we will discuss how the universal symbol of the Flower of Life is connected with the sacred Jewish teachings of the Kabbalah.

Flower of Life and the Kabbalah

The Flower of Life

Many people and ancient cultures used the structure of the Flower of Life as the sacred formula of the universe, the key to the higher dimensions of reality and the blueprint of creation. This structure can be found on the columns of the Osirion temple of Abydos in Egypt with Greek letters surrounding it. A reminiscent of the Greek disciples of the Pythagorean cult, that studied the mathematical/geometrical keys of the cosmos.

The Flower of life structure conceals a hidden structure known as the "Fruit of Life". It is a representation of a complex three-dimensional geometric pattern made from 13 circles of the same size, with lines extending from the center of every circle to the center of all the other twelve circles. This structure is known as Metatron's cube.

The Metatron's Cube holds the outlines of the five "Platonic Solids" - the Dodecahedron, the Octahedron, the Icosahedron, the Tetrahedron and the Cube. These structures with their different combinations are the basis of every molecular structure and actually every known structure in the universe. The ancient Greek philosophers were part of various movements in the ancient Middle East that tried to study and decipher the laws of the universe and the connection between God and its creation.

Some of these teachings found their way to the land of Israel/Judea during the early teachings of the Kabbalah, in the first century. One of the most recognizable symbols of Jewish mysticism is the Tree of Life /Ilan Hasefirot.

As most of these ancient studies, it is actually a cipher to the structure of the Flower of Life and the fruit of life. Placing the structure of the Tree of life on the Flower of Life interlocks with all of the centers of the Flower of life with perfect alignment.

Tree of Life

In the Kabbala, the Tree of Life is a representation of the thirty-two paths comprised of the ten sefirot and the twenty-two paths through which they run. The Tree of Life describes the descent of the divine into the manifest world and methods by which the divine union may be attained in this life. It can be viewed as a map of the human psyche, and of the workings of creation, both manifest and not. It is important to realize that the pure nature of divinity is unity and that the seemingly separate aspects or emanations exist only in view of the emanated, living in a state of illusory separation.

The names and numbers of the ten sefirot are given in order below. 1 - Kether (Crown) or Kether Elyon (Supreme Crown)
2 - Chokmah (Wisdom)
3 - Binah (Understanding or Intelligence)
4 - Chesed (Mercy or Grace) or Gedullah (Greatness)
5 - Geburah (Severity or Power), Din (Judgement) or Pahad (Fear)
6 - Tifereth (Beauty) or Rahamim (Mercy)
7 - Netzach (Victory or Constancy)
8 - Hod (Glory or Majesty)
9 - Yesod (Foundation) or Tsedek (Justice)
10 - Malkuth (Kingdom) or Shekhinah (Divine Immanence)

Seed of Life

Another structure hidden inside the Flower of Life is the Seed of Life. This is the basis for the Flower of Life itself and it can be connected to the seven days of creation. It is accomplished by creating the Vesica Pisces pattern-the two circles intersecting each other, which form the symbol of light. By continuing a vortex movement of these intersecting circles we'll end up with a seven circles pattern. The Seed of Life is fully formed on the "SHABBAT", the day of rest. The first vortex is completed and the seed which contains the blueprint of the universe is fully formed.
